Lately, I’ve had a lot on my mind. I’ve started asking myself whether I want to keep living the way I always have. During my twenty years in America, I never stopped missing my family in Korea. But I always felt I still had more work to do. Seeing them more often and spending time in the place I missed were things I thought could come later. Now I wonder if “later” could come sooner. If I keep waiting, I might miss some of the moments that matter most to me. I’ve worked hard and accomplished things I’m proud of. Still, I’m beginning to question whether I want to spend the coming years doing the same work. Perhaps I can give myself more credit for the knowledge and experience I’ve gained—and use them to begin something new. I want a life where I can see my family more often, enjoy our time together, and travel more freely between America and Korea, the place I’ve missed for so long.
I’m beginning to see that I need a new plan to make room for that life. I haven’t figured out exactly what to do or how to begin. But the thought that this life might be more possible than I once believed has started to excite me.
Here I am, in my sixties, imagining the third act of my life.Whatever shape it takes, I’m ready to begin with one small step.
