Dreaming of My Third Act at 60
My three-week trip to Korea was more than just a vacation. It gave me an opportunity to rediscover what connection truly means and reflect on how I want to live the next chapter of my life.It was a journey of reconnecting with the people I love, looking back on the life I’ve lived, and discovering new possibilities for the years ahead.

Time With My Mother
Sleeping beside my mother, listening to her stories, and simply being present with her made me reflect on all the moments I had missed during our years apart. As I watched my mother grow older, I realized how much I wanted to be closer to her, not just physically, but emotionally. I couldn’t change the years we had spent apart, but I felt grateful that we still had time to reconnect.
My Sisters — Seeing Their Growth
I spent nearly every moment of the day with my youngest sister. We cooked meals together, walked around her neighborhood, and shared countless conversations. Seeing how much she had grown brought tremendous joy to my heart. After our parents divorced, my sisters and I faced many difficulties growing up. As the oldest, I tried to help and protect them, but I was also young, stubborn, and sometimes hurt them without realizing it. Looking back, there are things I wish I had done differently. Yet seeing my sisters living their lives with strength, independence, and grace filled me with happiness. Knowing that they still love and appreciate me, despite my imperfections, meant more than I could express. My second sister lives with constant back pain, yet she continues to face life with remarkable strength and brightness. There was something heartbreakingly beautiful about her resilience. Her husband has dedicated 33 years to the same workplace and is now approaching retirement. His consistency, dedication, and perseverance are achievements that money could never buy. I hope he takes tremendous pride in those years and finds the courage to pursue the things he has always wanted to do in the next chapter of his life.
My Brothers — New Beginnings and Future Opportunities
Seeing my brother Mose begin a new business was deeply moving. I could only imagine the countless sleepless nights, difficult decisions, and challenges he had faced to reach this point. I felt proud of him. At the same time, his new venture made me wonder whether it might open a new door for me as well. Perhaps there is an opportunity for us to build something together, connecting Korea and America in a meaningful way. I didn’t get to spend much time with my youngest brother during this trip. But I appreciated his kindness in picking me up at the airport and driving me to our mother’s home. I wish we had spent more time together, but there will be another time. And next time, I hope we can share more conversations and moments together.
My Son — God’s Greatest Gift to Me
My son is the greatest gift God has given me. In many ways, he is the most precious part of my life that I will leave behind in this world. Traveling through Busan and Jeonju with my son and his girlfriend made this trip especially meaningful. We shared beautiful scenery, delicious meals, laughter, and memories that I will always treasure. Watching them fall in love with Korea made me incredibly happy. I also had the opportunity to grow closer to his girlfriend. The more time I spent with her, the more grateful I felt that someone with such a gentle and beautiful heart was by my son’s side. But this trip also taught me something important about motherhood. My son is no longer the little boy I once held in my arms. He is an independent person with his own dreams, choices, and life to live. As his mother, I must learn to respect his independence and support him from a little farther away. There is a bittersweet feeling in accepting that change. But perhaps learning to love without holding on too tightly is another form of growth. My love for him will always remain.
Old Friends — The Home of My Heart
My childhood friends are the home of my heart. Whenever I think about returning to the place where I belong, they are always there. No matter how many years pass, seeing them brings me back to the person I once was. Even if I can only see them once every few years, those moments offer a kind of healing that no psychiatrist could ever give me. I also reunited with a dear friend who shared the intense and demanding years of my thirties. Seeing her reminded me of who I was back then, how hard I worked, and how much I had overcome. There is something deeply comforting about being with someone who remembers a version of you that the rest of the world may never know. My friends told me that I still looked young and that they loved how I continued to dream about the future.Their words made me reflect on my own journey. I have worked hard. There have been difficult and exhausting years, but I realized that I have built a meaningful life. And at 60, I am still dreaming. For that, I am grateful.
Connection, Growth, and My Third Act
This trip made me realize that some dreams I once considered unrealistic might actually be possible. I want to continue living in America while visiting Korea several times a year. I want to spend ordinary days with the people I love. Cooking together. Sharing meals. Taking walks. Having conversations about nothing and everything. I don’t want those moments to be rare occasions. I want them to become a natural part of my life. To make that possible, I may need to work differently, create new opportunities, and find greater financial freedom. Perhaps a new business will open that door. Perhaps the experience and knowledge I’ve gained over the years will lead me somewhere I never expected. I don’t have all the answers yet.But for the first time, I can begin to see what that future might look like. This trip reminded me how precious my family and friends truly are. It also taught me that if I want to stay deeply connected to the people I love, I must continue growing myself. For much of my life, I have worked hard for my family, my responsibilities, and my career. Now, as I enter the third act of my life, I want to build a life centered on what truly matters to me. To love more deeply. To stay connected. To keep dreaming and growing.
The possibility that I might spend the third act of my life surrounded by the people I love, sharing meaningful moments with them, fills my heart with excitement. And that beautiful possibility is what keeps me awake at night.
